​Celebrating Black Excellence in Space – October 2024

In celebration of Black History Month 2024, UKSEDS hosted a webinar featuring a distinguished panel of Black professionals making remarkable strides in the space industry. It was an amazing opportunity to learn about their incredible achievements, hear their unique journeys, and gain valuable insights into navigating careers in the space sector. For those who couldn’t attend the webinar, we’re thrilled to share the recorded presentations of the exceptional speakers for UKSEDS members to watch!


Advenit Makaya

Advenit Makaya is an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at the European Space Agency. His story of travelling the world and working across diverse teams was both inspiring and insightful, and his work in the field of Materials and Processes to support ESA missions is incredibly fascinating to hear about.

Lily Asongfac is an aspiring engineer, dedicated to fostering interest in space among young students through initiatives like the Y4SSD-Aerospace Baby Project, an initiative was founded by Lily. She is committed to promoting diversity and innovation in technology as well as actively contribute to international conferences on Space Science and Technology, gathering valuable insights and experience with the global space community. She is a 2024 Emerging Space Leader by the International Astronautical Federation and one of the "2024 Women Engineers You Should Know" by the USA Society of Women Engineers.
